Abstract
The goal of this project was to design, build, and test a universal input electric vehicle battery charger with unity power factor and wide range, 2.0 kW output.  A pair of microprocessors control all functions of the charger, a major feature which provides adaptability to a wide spectrum of battery chemistries and configurations.  Further features of the unit include electrical isolation and efficiencies of up to 85%.  Experimental results agreed well with simulations.

These pictures show the three main components of this battery charger, which are:
Power Factor Correction (PFC) stage (boost converter)
Output stage (full bridge converter with high frequency isolation transformer)
        Controls (dual AVR microprocessors)
